WELLNESS HABIT 7
MOVE
Moving and engaging in physical activity or exercise every day is very important for helping you become healthy and staying that way. Being active can reduce your risk of becoming overweight or obese, developing high blood pressure, developing diabetes, developing heart disease just to name a few. It is important that you regularly do activities that increase your heart rate. These activities could be gym classes, swimming, running or cycling but can also include yoga, pilates or dancing. Even activities around the home like vacuuming, dusting, sweeping, cleaning and gardening can count.
As a start, it is important to track how many steps you walk, or run or swim, each day. There are now lots of ways that you can do this. The current Royal Australian College of General Practitioner guidelines (these are guidelines for general practitioners to follow and to recommend to their patients), amongst many others, suggests that a good goal to have is to walk an average of 10,000 steps each day. In addition they recommend having five sessions of moderate activity each lasting at least 30 minutes each week. These guidelines encourage everyone to engage in regular exercise sessions on top of daily walking targets, if possible.
Think about how many steps you walk each day as well as any regular exercise you engage in. Become a Warriors Own Wellness member to start tracking how active you are and to learn more about the Warrior Exercise Programme.
